Kellin DeVries Death, Obituary: Authorities have released the identity of a Hartford man who died in a motorcycle accident in Minnehaha County.
The collision took place on Highway 42, approximately nine miles west of Sioux Falls, last Thursday around 6:30 a.m.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, 56-year-old Kellin DeVries was traveling west on his motorcycle when a pickup truck, driven by a 19-year-old Sioux Falls resident, was heading east and attempted to overtake another vehicle. The pickup veered into the westbound lane and struck DeVries head-on.
DeVries was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident, and as of the DPS news release, no charges have been filed.
Kellin DeVries was born on January 17, 1968, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Duane and Sharon “Sheri” (Johnson) DeVries. He completed his early education in Adrian, Minnesota, before his family moved to Sheldon, Iowa, where he graduated high school.
In his forties, Kellin attended Colorado Technical University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2014. He worked for 19 and a half years as an operational supervisor on the second shift at John Morrell/AmeriCold in Sioux Falls before spending two years as the supply chain manager at Performance Pet Products in Mitchell, South Dakota. He then served as the warehouse supervisor at CCL Label in Sioux Falls for three and a half years. Most recently, he began working as the Logistics Supervisor for Manitou Equipment America, LLC in Madison, SD, in June 2024.

Kellin was an avid outdoorsman and a devoted family man. He cherished hunting trips with loved ones and enjoyed tinkering with cars, playing darts, fishing, boating, enduro racing, gardening, and, most importantly, riding motorcycles. He often shared stories of his adventures, including close encounters with buffalo and humorous mishaps while hunting. Fishing, especially with family and friends, brought him great joy.
