A fatal stabbing took place in Geelong around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, leading Victorian homicide detectives to charge a man with murder. Police discovered Jayme “Chugs” Sykes with stab wounds on Little Malop Street. He was rushed to the hospital but, tragically, succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation continues, two other men involved in the altercation presented themselves at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday morning, a 26-year-old man from Colac, identified on social media as James Farquhar, turned himself in at a police station. He has since been charged with murder. Victoria Police stated that detectives will interview him, while interviews with the other two men involved will take place at a later date.
Photos from the crime scene show blood splatters on a garden wall outside a state government building on Little Malop Street and smears on a shop window about 250 meters away on Downes Lane.
Friends and family expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Sykes, who was just 20 years old. Several nearby businesses were forced to either close or reduce their hours on Sunday in response to the tragic event.
