Teen Driver Cited For Reckless Driving In Route 17 Rollover Crash Today, Police Say

A teenage driver was cited for reckless driving following a rollover crash on Route 17 that sent both occupants to the hospital on Thursday night, Sept. 19, authorities said.

Firefighters and police responded to reports of a rollover with ejections in the northbound lanes of Route 17, just north of Franklin Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights, around 8 p.m., according to Hasbrouck Heights Police Lt. John Behr.

Upon arrival, responders found the vehicle on its side, though both teens had self-extricated before officers and firefighters arrived, contrary to the initial report, Behr said.

The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department, HUMC Advanced Life Support, and Holy Name Basic Life Support units were also on the scene. The highway was closed for about an hour, with assistance from the Wood-Ridge Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

Both occupants were transported to HUMC with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver was issued a summons for reckless driving.
