45-Year-Old Westport Man Sustains “Significant” and “Potentially Life-Threatening” Injuries in Highway Crash

A local man sustained serious injuries in a crash on Saturday night.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the north side of Route 140, just north of County Street, at approximately 10:00 p.m.

At the time of the accident, Ambulance 3 was occupied with the treatment and transport of another resident experiencing a medical emergency. A recall was issued, prompting off-duty personnel to return to duty.

Ambulance 1, Engine 1, Car 2, and Car 1 responded to the scene on the highway. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an adult male trapped inside a vehicle that had veered off the road, collided with a sign and a tree, and overturned.

Rescue crews utilized hydraulic tools, known as the “jaws of life,” to extricate the trapped man.

A medical helicopter was initially requested due to the occupant’s condition but was later canceled because of a 40-minute flight time and the effective progress of the extrication.

The patient was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by Lakeville Ambulance.
